City's cerebral palsy team wins FA Disability Cup

The Norwich City CP team have only being going for three years and have made it to two finals

The captain of Norwich City's cerebral palsy team says winning the FA Disability CP Cup is "amazing".

City completed a historic double by beating the Chelsea Foundation 6-3 in Sunday's final at the St George's Park national football centre in Staffordshire.

The Canaries had qualified by winning the eight-team National CP League for the second year in a row.

Skipper Owen Woodrow said: "The lads have put in so much effort to this season; to lift that trophy... it’s just great."

City are only missing the National Cerebral Palsy Cup in their trophy cabinet

Last season, the team lost to North East & Yorkshire in the final, something the team were not willing to let happen again.

"To lose 4-0 last year and win 6-3 this year, our goal difference is nearly zero so we'll take that," said goal scorer Josh Wilde.

"To come here and win is what we set out to do at the start of the season and is a dream come true."

City are now only missing the National Cerebral Palsy Cup in their collection.

"Next year we have to try and beat it by going for all three trophies," added Wilde.

'Smashed it'

Team manager Darren Hunter said: "After last year it was unfinished business for us; we wanted to come back and give a better account of ourselves and we have definitely done that.

“The league is something we are very proud of... going undefeated is phenomenal."

It was England and Norwich player Brad Taylor Buglione’s last game for the club, and he was glad it ended on a high.

“Last year hurt. We got battered 4-0. We weren’t ready. This year we have taken it in our stride and just absolutely smashed it," he said.

The final was a showpiece at St Georges Park

Willoughby Ellson, defender, said: "We obviously know we are going to be the most chased in all three competitions next season. We just have to come out fighting.

“I still think we are really hungry to back up what we have done this season.

"It was a really great feeling to win the league twice in a row, so to win this twice in a row would be great."
