Petition calls for change to junction over safety fears

People living near a junction in Lincolnshire have said “something must be done” to make it safer amid fears it causes "frequent accidents".
The A15 junction with the B1202 connects Sleaford Road with Metheringham village.
A petition demanding a change to its layout has been signed more than 270 times.
Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership denied that it was one of the worst junctions in the country for crashes and said speed check cameras were in operation nearby.
According to the petition, external, there are often delays of 10-15 minutes at the junction when it is busy.
It stated: "As a result of these delays, drivers often resort to dangerous manoeuvres to continue their journey, causing frequent accidents."
Sarah Gleave, who lives nearby on Metheringham Heath Road, said she often witnessed accidents there.
“The most recent one was not nice... and it took two hours to clear," she said. "I had only driven through the junction about 30 minutes before it had happened, so it could have easily been me."
The 55-year-old suggested that some people opt not to use the junction at all.
“My neighbour who lives on the other side of the crossroads goes the long way round to work just to avoid using it," she said.
"The roads are so busy, and people get it wrong," she added.
Simon Outen-Coe, from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, said: “The data we have does not show this junction as one of the worst places in the county for collisions.
"However, there is a lot of traffic on these roads. Perhaps people are taking opportunities to come out of the junction when the gap is not there for them to take."
He said average speed camera checks already take place near the junction.
“This has been looked at by the Highways Committee at Lincolnshire County Council and they have asked for further work and research on the junction which is under way,” he added.
