Plan to boost resort's LGBT+ quarter launched

Plans to boost a resort’s LGBTQ+ quarter have been launched.
Blackpool Council said it wants to build on the popularity of gay-friendly bars, venues, and guest houses in the North Shore area.
It also wants to make the streets safer with CCTV and better street lighting.
Supporters of the scheme said they hoped it would bring investment and help businesses grow.
Chris Taylor-Hone, the owner of a bar and two B&Bs, and a representative of Blackpool Accommodation Group (BAGs), told BBC News: "We're calling it the 'Be Who You Want To Be' area because actually it's for anybody to come to and be exactly who they want to be."
He said both independent businesses and chains were putting money into the area but there was "still much more that can be done".
"If I fancy going for a coffee or a cake during the day, there's not really anywhere within this quarter,” he said.
DJ and entertainment manager Pudsley said the plans were "massive for Blackpool" and would make the area safer.
Tim Allan, chair of the North Shore Business Group, said there was a “real buzz” around the idea.
“The action plan will build on Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ history and heritage and will support the health and welfare of our community,” he added.
An online consultation had 269 responses.
The proposals were widely welcomed by councillors, the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Councillor Jo Farrell, Cabinet Member for Levelling Up - People, said the town already had a "rich history with the LGBTQ+ community" and believed it was the right time to "develop that further to deliver something better for Blackpool".
