A volunteer has been recognised with a Points of Light award from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Matthew Bridger from Stoke-on-Trent was recognised for his outstanding contribution to community service and volunteering, according to 10 Downing Street.

The 23-year-old founded a charity dedicated to helping youngsters as well as another aimed at supporting homeless people.

He also launched The Bridger Foundation which provides grants to local charities and mental health support.

The daily Points of Light award recognises volunteers who make a change in their community.

Mr Bridger has been working with volunteers and businesses since 2017 to donate more than 200 shoeboxes filled with essential supplies for homeless people.

Stoke-on-Trent Central MP Jo Gideon said he stood out as a force of nature.

“His efforts have not only inspired but also brought together numerous individuals and organisations," she said.

Mr Bridger said he saw the award as a testament to the power of collaboration and what can be achieved when communities came together with a shared purpose.

“Being part of a community that shares a common vision for a better world is a true blessing, and I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to contribute to our community,” he said.
