There are few days when it is possible to walk around the Beachy Head Lighthouse

Walkers are set to trek around the Beachy Head lighthouse on Saturday, when the extra low spring tide makes it possible, to raise money for charity.

The event, organised by Eastbourne AM Rotary Club, will see people clamber over rocks, boulders, sand and slippery seaweed to reach the building.

The annual challenge was first launched in 2013 to raise £30,000 to repaint the lighthouse, and some of the funds from this year's walk will go towards its next repaint.

Other cash raised through participation fees will go to local charities, including the RNLI in Eastbourne, East Sussex.

Volunteers from community group Round Table will assist the Rotary Club to lead the walk, which starts at the foot of the South Downs.

Walkers will then pass Cow Gap along the route, before heading down the steps to the beach and over the rocks to the lighthouse.

The organisers said the walk was difficult to arrange as it needed to be held during a spring tide - a particularly low tide which happens twice a month - during daylight hours, and at the weekend.
