Two sentenced for teenager's hammer attack

Two people have been sentenced for a hammer attack on a 17-year-old boy in Warwick.

The victim suffered serious head injuries in the attack in Tapping Way on 16 September last year.

Jake Coop, 19, from Leamington Spa, and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named because of his age, denied conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm but were convicted in February.

Coop was sentenced to five years detention in a young offenders institution and the 16-year-old received a four-year sentence at Warwick Crown Court on Friday.

Coop, of River Close, had earlier pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon and was given concurrent sentences of three years and two years respectively.

The 16-year-old denied threatening another person with a bladed weapon and received a 12-month sentence to also run concurrently.
