A 15-year-old boy has been charged with causing the death of a seven-year-old girl in a hit-and-run motorbike crash.

Katniss Seleznev died in hospital after she was hit by the bike on Turnstone Road in Blakenhall, Walsall, on 27 July last year.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving on Monday, West Midlands Police said.

He is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on 10 April.

Local residents released balloons in Katniss' memory after the crash

Balloons were released in Katniss' memory and a fundraiser was set up to help her family with funeral costs following the crash.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes thanked those who came forward with information for the investigation.

"Whilst the charge is a positive step the court process now needs to run its course and I would remind people that speculation especially on social media does not help Katniss’ family," he added.

“Our thoughts continue to remain with the family of Katniss who are still trying to come to terms with her tragic death.”
