A police officer is due to appear in court charged with misconduct in a public office.

Det Con Wasim Bashir, who works for West Yorkshire Police in the Bradford area, is alleged to have contacted vulnerable victims of serious sexual offences or domestic abuse during the course of his duties, without any identified policing purpose.

The 54-year-old, of Ploughmans Croft in Bradford, is also alleged to have abused his position by beginning a sexual relationship with one of the victims.

Det Con Bashir is set to appear before Hull Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between 1 August 2019 and 5 January 2022.

West Yorkshire Police said Det Con Bashir had been suspended from duty since his arrest following an investigation by the force's Counter Corruption Unit.
