Thieves targeting mobility scooters in Lincoln have left one owner "devastated" as they can no longer get out to the shops, police have said.

Two machines were stolen and an attempt made to take a third by thieves wearing balaclavas during a spate of incidents on Friday night or early Saturday morning in the Moorland area of the city.

A chain securing a mobility scooter in the front garden of a property in Turner Road was cut and the vehicle taken and another was stolen from outside a property on Cotman Road.

"The theft of this scooter is particularly devastating for the owner, who will now struggle to get out and about and fetch supplies," a Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said.

In the third incident, three people dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas tried to steal a mobility scooter in Westwick Drive before an alarm was set off.

The gang fled the scene without the scooter, police said.

The force warned all mobility scooter owners to "make sure their property is secured and locked".

Investigators are appealing for information about the thefts.
