Staff at a junior football club said they were "heartbroken" to see their pitches vandalised three times in the past two weeks.

Morley Glen Juniors Football Club in Leeds plays at the Glen Road pitches, which were covered in tyre track marks overnight on 1 and 3 October.

Club chairman Danny Shiels said they were returned to a playable condition in time for games on 4 October, thanks to community donations - only for the pitches to be damaged again on Saturday night.

The club has 19 teams, from under-6s to under-12s, and Mr Shiels said the vandals would not stop them playing this weekend.

The club began raising money online to pay for damage repairs and has so far raised more than £3,500.

Mr Shiels said: "Grass grows back, but we have 304 children at the football club, and at that moment I thought we won't be playing football there for a number of weeks.

"To a lot of children, Morley Glen is home.

"We were very, very disappointed."

The club has more than 300 members aged between six and 12

He said local clubs had come forward to offer facilities for matches, and the response to the fundraising had been "humbling and phenomenal".

"That is testament to the grit of local people and their understanding of what the club does for the community," Mr Shiels said.

The damage has been reported to West Yorkshire Police.
