The health hub will be based in Whitehaven and will provide support for people across West Cumbria

People have been invited to choose a name for a new hub delivering NHS and wellbeing services.

The facility will be based in Whitehaven town centre and will provide support for people across West Cumbria, 24 hours a day.

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust said it and other groups would provide mental health services along with help and advice with issues like housing, money and employment.

The trust has asked residents to choose from a shortlist of four names, suggested by organisations in Cumbria.

The names, The Space, Peace of Mind, Hope and Anchor and Hope Haven, can be voted for here, external.

The initiative is one of six pilots across the country, initially funded for two years by NHS England, to provide more mental health support in local communities.

The centre will also offer four short-stay beds as an alternative to people being admitted to hospital.

Julia Clifford, founder of iCan Wellbeing CIO, said the names were chosen to reflect the service being "space to reflect and find peace and hope for recovery".

"This will be a new way of working, based right in the heart of our communities, helping people to get help early and live healthier, happier lives."

It is hoped the hub will open in spring when work to the building is finished.

Meanwhile, the services will start from temporary bases in other buildings later this year.
