A fitness boot camp group have carried fridges and dishwashers from Yate to Bristol to raise money for the city's homeless.

The group of 26 women from Yate completed a half marathon distance while carrying appliances on their backs.

They were fundraising for the Blonde Angel Street Team, which helps Bristol's rough sleepers by handing out food on Sundays.

Debbs Ralph, who carried a dishwasher, said: "We wanted to make a point that we take all of this stuff for granted. We've all got it in our homes and some of these people don't have any homes."

The team split into small groups, rotating between carrying appliances and a bag of food supplies to give to the Blonde Angel Street Team to distribute.

Dee Woodwaid carried a fridge, she said: "It's actually been quite nice, it's comfortable. It's easier than pushing the toilet. And the weather just adds to the fun."

Former Royal Marine Lee Ralph runs the boot camp and said the women never "fail to surprise" him.

"It's been really tough. The weather has made things hard, the women were getting cold. But they got through it," he said.

A man who has been homeless since February said it made a "huge difference" to get the food from the Blonde Angel Street Team.

"It's very helpful. It's a lifeline for everybody," he said.

"By the end of the day, all the food is gone."
