The driver of a white van who drove away after striking a cyclist is being sought by police.

The cyclist, aged in his 70s, was hit by the van as he cycled on the A4130, near to Halifax Road in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, on Monday at about 06:00 BST.

Thames Valley Police said he was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be serious at first but his condition had since deteriorated and he was now critical.

The long-wheelbase van has been described as "clean" with no sign writing on it.

Sgt Chris Liddicott, of the joint operations road policing unit, said: "I am appealing to anybody who was driving on this stretch of road and witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage, to please get in touch.

"I would also like to appeal directly to the driver of the van to contact us."

The force has also urged anyone who may have seen a white, long-wheelbase van "with fresh damage to the passenger side" to come forward.
