A year of road closures are being put in place in part of a city centre earmarked for £5.8m of upgrades.
From Tuesday, site preparation and construction works will start on Lincoln Road in Peterborough, with the project expected to be finish in spring 2026.
The scheme will include construction of raised pedestrian crossing points, cycle stands, improved paving, electric vehicle charging points, repositioning of the northbound bus stop and a new zebra crossing near to the junction with Alma Road.
Peterborough City Council said Lincoln Road would be closed southbound, with a northbound one-way system between Windmill Street and Stone Lane.

Total funding for this project is £3.4m, with £2.4m allocated from the government's Towns Fund. Additional funding will come from other sources, including developer contributions.
Lincoln Road in Millfield is one of the busiest and most diverse areas of Peterborough.
It is hoped the works will enhance user experience for people in the area and encourage more people to visit Lincoln Road, the local authority said.
Councillor Angus Ellis, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "This is great news for Peterborough residents.
"Lincoln Road is long overdue some investment and the Towns Fund grant has allowed us to finally get spades in the ground and start delivering.
"The improvements included in the scheme will be a significant upgrade for residents, business owners and customers and we would like to thank everyone for their patience whilst the scheme is delivered."
