Car parking charges to begin after refurbishment
- Published
A Leicestershire car park is set to reopen on Monday with a new road surface, lighting and parking charges.
The car park at Bouskell Park in Blaby shut in October for renovation work, including resurfacing, landscaping, installing low-level lighting and two accessible spaces, and widening the gates in and out for vehicles.
Blaby District Council said the "finishing touches" were being made ahead of the reopening on Monday.
Charges will then apply at the site for the first time, from 08:00 to 18:00.
Money from the charges, which range from 70p for an hour to £6 for more than four hours, would go towards the car park's upkeep, said the council.
The car park will be open daily from 07:00, with the car park open until 20.30 from April to October, and 18:00 off season.
Councillor Nigel Grundy thanked residents and visitors for their patience during the "extensive refurbishment", funded by £440,000 from the UK Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Further works to the pavement on Welford Road, near the car park entrance, would be needed to fix a drainage issue, said the council, meaning the car park is likely to shut for a week later this year.
