A man has been arrested following a collision in Leicestershire that left two people seriously injured.

The collision occurred on Ashby Road, Loughborough, at about 19:50 GMT on Tuesday and involved two vehicles, a black Mazda MX5 and a beige Skoda Fabia.

The two men in the Mazda were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where they remain in a serious condition, police said.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

Both cars were travelling towards junction 23 of the M1.

Officers said the investigation was ongoing and they were still keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, saw the vehicles beforehand or has relevant dashcam footage.
