Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers received a report of someone believed to be in possession of a gun in Central Avenue, Hucknall, shortly after 17:45 GMT on Friday.

Searches were carried out by teams on the ground and by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) fixed-wing plane, said the force.

A man, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at about 18:30 in the Bestwood area on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, driving without insurance, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The 17-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Both suspects have been released under investigation while inquiries continue, said officers.

Ch Insp David Mather said: "Following searches no firearm was found and I want to reassure the public that we do not believe there to be any wider threat to the community."

He asked anyone with information about what happened to get in touch.
