A burst water main that flooded homes has affected the supply of about about 500 properties.

Firefighters and police were sent to homes and businesses in and around London Road in Binfield, Berkshire, at about 03:00 GMT after a torrent of water flowed into the buildings.

South East Water apologised to customers experiencing a lack of supply or low water pressure.

Incident manager Paul Mann said: "We're sorry to customers in the Binfield area who are experiencing no water or low pressure. Around 500 customers are affected by this."

He added: "Our specialist teams are already on site, and we are setting up traffic management to repair the main while keeping the public and staff safe during the works.

"While we expect the repair to be completed and water supplies returned by this evening, the road will need to remain with traffic management in place until early next week while we restore the road to a safe and drivable condition."

Bottled water is being delivered to vulnerable people, the company said.
