Fan's 26 years to complete football stadium challenge

A Northampton Town supporter said he was delighted after visiting all 92 football league stadiums.

Ash Lambell, who grew up in the town, signed off in style as his beloved side won 3-0 away at Plymouth Argyle's Home Park. He has now visited all 72 English Football League (EFL) grounds and the 20 in the Premier League.

The 33-year-old's ground-hopping has spanned three decades since watching his first match in 2000 aged eight.

"It's nice to have finally got to the end of that list and say 'I've completed it, job done'," Mr Lambell said.

His trip to Plymouth was the Cobblers' furthest away trip of the season at almost 250 miles (402km).

It was a journey he intended to make in April 2020, but it was scuppered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Lambell said seeing all 92 grounds happened naturally, rather than being a "desperate chase"

"It's taken a while but felt really good yesterday," the supporter said.

"To top it off with a 3-0 win puts the cherry on the cake, so lots of really good memories to take away from it."

Mr Lambell said his favourite away stadium was the City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest - a club he used to work for.

"I think it's got the best atmosphere in the country," he added. "It's based in the city centre and it's got some amazing pubs and bars around."

Less revered by Mr Lambell was Luton Town's Kenilworth Road, where he said the lack of standing room was "a nightmare".

He said his quest to see all 92 EFL grounds had happened naturally rather than being a "desperate chase".

The dedicated supporter added: "It's nice to have completed it now and to just get back to watching football without worrying actually where it is."
