A man who raped a vulnerable woman after posing as a good samaritan and luring her to his Aberdeen flat has been jailed for five years.

Diego Valdivieso, 30, offered the young woman a bed at his home in the city's Rosemount area, after finding her drunk and confused in Union Street in October 2022.

He was convicted of raping her while she was asleep and unable to give or withhold consent. The woman later contacted police.

Valdivieso, originally from Ecuador, was jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh and was told he would be deported after his term.

Lord Lake said it was clear that his victim was still suffering from the consequences of his actions.

The judge said: "You posed as a good Samaritan when she found herself confused in the centre of Aberdeen.

"You offered her your bed - she was trusting and you took advantage of that when she was drunk."

The judge hoped that the conclusion of the trial would help the woman with her recovery.

Valdivieso was placed on the sex offenders register for life.
