An 82-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked at a bus stop in Birmingham.

The victim was set upon about 15:30 GMT on Tuesday while waiting at the number 74 stop on Soho Road, Handsworth, near the junction with Boulton Road.

His attacker left the scene, police said, leaving the pensioner seriously hurt.

Det Supt Shaun Edwards said West Midlands Police was reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses as part of their inquiries into what happened.

The force has appealed to others in the area or those with dashcam footage to get in touch.
