120 waterside homes approved for town centre

Disused land on Grimsby's Alexandra Dock could soon be home to a new housing development.

North East Lincolnshire Council approved an application by housebuilder Keepmoat to build 120 homes on the banks of the River Freshney on 31 October.

The plans, which will see a £20m investment from the developer, will feature 54 affordable homes.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, cabinet member for housing at the council, said: "I'm pleased this has taken the next step towards becoming a reality."

He said the town centre development would "help to transform Grimsby's future in the coming years".

Richard Gough, operations director at Keepmoat Yorkshire East, said the project would "breathe new life into Alexandra Dock" and would "bring forward a brownfield piece of land set for regeneration".

Disused buildings on the plot will be demolished before work starts to construct the new homes.
