A man has been arrested after a woman died when a car she was travelling in hit railings.
The woman, in her 30s, was a passenger in a Toyota Icon which hit railings on High Street, Knutton in Newcastle-under Lyme at about 22:30 BST on Wednesday.
The driver and a second passenger were unhurt, but the woman, who had to be freed from the car by firefighters, died in hospital.
A 22-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving and remains in custody, said Staffordshire Police.
Police are appealing for camera footage and information as they investigate the crash.
The crash happened outside Newcastle Family Hub which Staffordshire County Council said was operating as usual despite damage to part of the outdoor play area.
"We are, of course, aware of the loss of life in this accident and wish to express our condolences to family and friends of the deceased," said Mark Sutton, cabinet member for children and young people.
