The pub had seen takings fall dramatically in recent years, a meeting heard

A once-thriving village pub which was taking in less than £70 on some days will be demolished to make way for bungalows.

Shropshire Inn at Haughton, near Stafford, was only seeing five or six customers on weekdays, a Stafford Borough Council meeting heard.

Councillors were told it was once so popular it would take £30,000 per week, but that had fallen to just £600 per week.

The owners of the pub put it up for sale in 2017, but had failed to find a buyer.

The pub on Newport Road will now be replaced by two bungalows

The meeting heard it would probably have closed soon, even if the application had not been approved.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
