A 20-year-old drink-driver has been jailed for more than three years for causing the death of one of his passengers.

Aidan Webb, 19, was killed when a faulty car driven by Tyler Wilkins crashed in North Crawley near Milton Keynes on 10 December 2022.

Wilkins, from Newport Pagnell, was also disqualified from driving for nearly seven years.

Mr Webb's family have called for all drivers who kill while over the limit to have a lifetime driving ban.

Mr Webb died at the scene and three other teenage passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries after Wilkins' black Vauxhall Corsa crashed on Crawley Road at about 21:50 GMT.

Wilkins, of Huxley Close, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving whilst over the drink-drive limit and was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Monday to three years and four months imprisonment.

He was disqualified from driving for six years and eight months, and will have to take an extended re-test.

An order was made for his car to be destroyed.

'Needless and avoidable'

In a statement following the hearing, Mr Webb's family said: "The last 21 months have been unbearable for our family and, although we are happy that we can finally draw a line under this court process, nothing will take away from the fact that Aidan was killed by a drunk driver who chose to drive a car that was not roadworthy.

"The faulty automatic brakes, bald tyre as well as driving with a space saver tyre for several weeks shows the lack of consideration given to Aidan as well as the other passengers.

“We call for all drivers who kill whilst over the limit to have a lifetime driving ban."

Senior investigating officer, Sgt Philip Hanham, said: "I hope this sentencing demonstrates how seriously Thames Valley Police takes careless driving and drink-driving.

“Tragically, as a result of Wilkins’ actions, a young man, a friend, a brother and a son was lost in Aidan’s passing.

"This was a needless and avoidable tragedy."
