A raft of events are taking place across north-east England to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Poppy displays have been dotting monuments, churches and civic buildings in the lead-up to commemorations on 9 November.

Newcastle City Council said it was expecting thousands of people to attend city centre events.

A military parade will gather at the civic centre from 10:45 GMT ahead of a service at the Old Eldon Square memorial.

A gun signal will mark a two-minute silence ahead of a service by the Bishop of Newcastle, Helen-Ann Hartley.

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, councillor Henry Gallagher, will head to the Saluting Dias at Grey's Monument to take the salute as the military parade marches past.
