Motorists are facing delays after the M23 was closed on the approach to Gatwick Airport.

Two southbound lanes have reopened on the motorway but two remain closed between junction eight (M25) and junction nine (Gatwick), National Highways said.

Traffic had been held in both directions from about 07:00 BST but the northbound carriageway was reopened just after 08:00.

National Highways said the closure was due to a "police-led incident" and that motorists should expect delays.

Surrey Police said its officers attended the scene.

A London Gatwick spokesperson said: "Passengers driving to London Gatwick are advised to leave more to time to reach the airport this morning."
