A man who repeatedly assaulted his partner, including by strangling her, has been jailed.

Anton Tinsdeall from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, was sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty of causing actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.

Northamptonshire Police said it found evidence that Tinsdeall made his victim's life "unbearable" in the course of their two-month relationship.

Northampton Crown Court heard the 38-year-old, who had a previous conviction for attempted robbery, was also found guilty of common assault of an emergency worker.

Police said they were alerted on 20 January after a woman called them to state her neighbour had come to her door "fearing for her life" because her partner had assaulted her.

They said that on the evening of the incident, he had strangled her three times.

The victim described "love bombing" traits in the early part of the relationship which escalated to verbal and then physical abuse, with Tinsdeall often taking her phone and stopping her from leaving their address and seeing her friends.

Fearing for her life, the victim ran to her neighbour's house seeking refuge and contacted the police.

At his sentencing on 8 August, Tinsdeall was issued with a restraining order against his victim and fined £228.
