A former army reserve centre and caretakers’ house will go up for auction as potential residential properties.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is to sell the former military base in London Road, Camberley at an auction on 7 November, with a guide price of £850,000.

A MoD spokesperson said the army reserve centre, where reserve soldiers worked and trained, was “surplus to defence requirements” and was part of the ministry’s strategy to reduce its estate.

Promoted as a potential development site for new homes, the main building is made up of a large hall, six rooms, a kitchen, two toilets and a mezzanine with two additional rooms.

The included caretakers’ house also has four bedrooms, two reception rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.

The centre has been on the MoD's list of "disposal" properties since at least 2018, according to a freedom of information request submitted that year.

In May 2023, the centre was registered on a website that allowed public bodies, such as councils, to register their interest in government property and land, called Electronic Property Information Mapping Service (ePIMS).

In June 2024, property consultants Montagu Evans recommended auction as the best way to sell the site in a report to the MoD, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
