A five-person team from BBC Radio Guernsey is aiming to swim 24 miles in 24 hours for BBC Children in Need.

BBC Guernsey's swim team currently includes breakfast presenter Tim Hunter and show producer Olivia Fraser.

The team will begin the challenge at 08:00 BST on Tuesday 5 November at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre and have until 08:00 the next day to finish the challenge.

BBC Guernsey will be swimming alongside 38 other local radio stations from across the BBC who together aim to complete The Thousand Mile Challenge, external.

The challenge will involve teams from BBC radio stations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland attempting to swim 24 miles each – adding up to the 1,000 mile total, equivalent to 64,000 lengths of a 25m pool.

BBC Radio Guernsey’s Breakfast Presenter Tim Hunter said he was nervous, but excited about the challenge.

“The idea of myself and the team swimming the distance from Castle Cornet Breakwater to Alderney’s Breakwater seems a bit daunting, but it’s for such a fantastic cause I’m sure that will spur us on in our challenge attempt," he said.

"As a team we’ll be training hard as we really want to complete this challenge in 24 hours, so as long as we swim a mile each hour then we will be fine.”
