The Severn Bridge has reopened following a full closure due to strong winds.

The M48 was closed between J2 A466 Wye Valley Link Road and J1 A403 at Aust for several hours on Saturday night.

National Highways confirmed the bridge reopened at 20:50 BST that evening.

Traffic was diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, which remained open to all traffic.

Motorists were advised to plan their routes in advance and allow extra time to travel.

The Met Office said some of the strongest winds were likely to be along the Bristol Channel and the west coast of Wales.

Dozens of flood alerts were in place across England and Wales and there were warnings that wind gusts could reach up to 75mph (120km/h) as the country was hit with stormy conditions.
