AI Council chair Tony Moretta said the island could achieve more success with AI "if we work together"

A group has been set up to support how artificial intelligence (AI) technology is implemented in Jersey.

Digital Jersey said the new AI Council would act as a co-ordination body to "align and amplify initiatives" across the island's public and private sectors.

It said the council would facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing to "maximise the benefits and mitigate the risks" of AI adoption, and create a plan to draw on expertise of its members to help others in Jersey.

Other organisations involved include the government, Jersey Finance, the Jersey Financial Services Commission, the Jersey AI Forum, the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner and the Institute of Directors.

Tony Moretta, chief executive of Digital Jersey and chair of the AI Council, said the island stood at a "pivotal moment in the AI revolution".

"While many businesses and organisations understand the significance of AI and are individually advancing their capabilities, progress is fragmented," he said.

"We believe we can achieve substantially more if we work together - and this is something that comes out strongly from our work on AI to date."
