Part of the M18 in South Yorkshire has reopened after being closed for about 12 hours following a "serious" single-vehicle collision near Rotherham.

The motorway was closed northbound between Junction 1 for Bramley and Junction 2 for the A1M at about 03:00 BST on Saturday.

National Highways said South Yorkshire Police originally believed the incident was a multi-vehicle collision.

Police advised drivers to avoid the area and to plan an alternative route.

Following police investigations, the road had reopened by 16:00.
