A hospital radio station that has been broadcasting for nearly 60 years is set to host its last ever show.

Radio Leighton, based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, started in 1967 and has since become a source of local news, entertainment and music for patients and staff.

But Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said the station will transmit its final show on Sunday.

It has been billed as a "memorable farewell broadcast" and people have been encouraged to share their five decades of memories of the hospital

Nicola Price, chief people officer at the trust, said she was grateful to the volunteer presenters who had "given their time and talent to Radio Leighton over the years".

"Their dedication has brought comfort, joy, and connection to countless patients," she said.

"The legacy of our hospital radio will always remain a cherished part of Leighton Hospital's history."

Anyone who wishes to share their memories of Radio Leighton should do so by messaging the station via its Facebook page.
