Police officers were pelted with bricks and stones by youths at a building site in North Yorkshire.
Officers were "deliberately targeted" in Eastfield, near Scarborough, at 01:00 BST on Sunday while responding to reports of anti-social behaviour, North Yorkshire Police said.
The missiles were thrown from behind a fence on Maximus Way, the force said, with those involved making "clear attempts to seriously injure officers".
The officers retreated to a safe distance, with the objects causing damage to a parked vehicle on the nearby Roma Drive.
Both suspects are described as white males aged between 14 and 16, with one wearing a white top, black shoes, black trousers and a grey jacket.
The second was wearing Nike skinny grey trousers, the force added, with those with information about the incident asked to come forward.
