Flats proposal for cannabis farm club

A former nightclub where a large-scale cannabis factory was uncovered last year is set to be converted into a shop and apartments.
Doncaster Council has approved an application to convert the vacant nightclub at 40-44 Silver Street into 12 apartments.
The site, in the centre of Doncaster, housed Revolution, Aruba and Kaz Bar before it closed in 2020.
South Yorkshire Police uncovered a “sophisticated” cannabis factory in the abandoned building in December.
Officers found around 800 plants in the property, valued at around £800,000, and people were also thought to have been living there.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the site will now be brought back into public use as it is converted into one and two-bedroom flats.
A ground-floor retail unit selling food and drinks will keep the site’s commercial use.
Internal and external alterations will be made - including the nightclub's smoking enclosure balcony being removed.
Amendments were made to original plans after concerns about the privacy and security of residents and noise levels from outside.
Doncaster Civic Trust said: “It [is] important to retain this distinctive building and bring it back into use.
“With no takers for it with a night club use, residential use seems the obvious, if not ideal, choice.”
No objections were made by the public during a consultation.
