The 107 homes would form the first phase of the development of the site

Detailed plans have been put forward for the first 107 homes on the site of a former power station.

Shropshire councillors rejected an earlier proposal for the site in Coalbrookdale in December 2023, ruling that it "failed to capture an identity or sense of place that is relevant to the site and its history”.

Revised plans, which are due to go before a planning committee next Tuesday, have been recommended for approval by council officers.

They now include a "tree-lined corridor" and the houses take inspiration from a 1930s-era pump house on the site.

The Ironbridge power station was demolished in 2019 and outline planning approval for the site was granted in 2021.

But that approval included a condition that the homes should conform to a design code to ensure the quality of the development.

A council report, which is due to go before next week's planning committee, concluded that the proposals met that objective and also met modern building standards.

The homes would form the first phase of the development of the site and the outline plans for the area include up to 1,000 homes, plus a retirement village, employment sites, a primary school, sports pitches and a railway link.
