E-bike rider used M6 to deliver fast food, police say

A rider on a modified e-bike who was using a motorway as a takeaway delivery route has been stopped by police and summonsed to court.
Lancashire Police said the rider was stopped on the M6 near Preston while using the hard shoulder "as a route to deliver fast food" on Friday.
The force said suspected modifications to the bike meant it fell into the "moped category" and the rider did not have a licence or insurance for such a vehicle.
It said that as a result, the bike was seized and the rider was summonsed.
A representative from Lancashire Road Policing Unit said the modified e-bike had an extra motor and throttle which would take it outside of Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPC) legislation, external.
They said a label on the bike also suggested the battery should not be used in the rain and should be kept in a "shady, cool and dry condition".
The force has begun an investigation to further establish the bike's legality.
