A man has appeared in court charged with violent disorder, following riots in Middlesbrough.

The town saw a night of unrest on Sunday 4 August, in a wave of disorder that swept across the country following anti-immigration fuelled social media misinformation about the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport.

The 31-year-old appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court in connection with the large scale disorder in Middlesbrough, Cleveland Police said.

He was remanded in custody, and is next due to appear at Teesside Crown Court on 29 August for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
