An 11-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in a hotel pool in Fuerteventura, a coroner's court has heard.
Francesca Mae Blease, from Crewe, Cheshire, was found in the swimming pool on 7 August an inquest, opening on Wednesday, was told.
The tragedy happened in the Esquinzo area of Fuerteventura, according to Cheshire Police.
Coroner's officer Paul Downey said the girl was taken to a hospital in Gran Canaria and died on 8 August when her life support machine was switched off.
Coroner Victoria Davies said given there was an unnatural cause of death, it was appropriate for her to formally open an inquest.
A full inquest will be held on 27 January.
