Police have launched an investigation after a man was critically injured in a suspected stabbing.

Hertfordshire Police were called at 20:29 BST on Sunday to reports of a stabbing on Franklin Avenue in Watford.

A 34-year-old man was found with two suspected stab wounds on his neck and another under his arm.

Paramedics attended and he was then taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he remains in a critical condition.

The crime scene on Franklin Road continues to be under guard to allow forensic investigations to take place.

Det Insp Chris Parperi, of Watford CID, said his team believed it was "an isolated incident involving people we believe are known to one another".

"I understand that news of this incident will be concerning to the public, and we would like to reassure residents that there is a heightened police presence in the area as enquiries continue, so please do not hesitate to speak to an officer at the scene if you have any concerns.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have either witnessed an incident near to Faraday Court on Franklin Avenue, or may have been walking or driving in the area between 20:00 and 20:30 on Sunday."
