A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting which left another man critically hurt.
Armed officers were called to Abbott Street in Hexthorpe, Doncaster, at about 23:10 BST on Thursday, according to South Yorkshire Police.
A 40-year-old man suffered multiple injuries in the incident, a force spokesperson said.
A woman, 41, was also arrested on suspicion of assisting offenders and both suspects remained in custody, they added.
'Mindless violence'
The man who was injured in the incident remained in hospital in a critical but stable condition, officers said.
Det Insp Claire Moss said: "This was a shocking attack, and an example of the mindless violence that has no place in our community."
The force said officers would be calling at homes and trawling through CCTV as part of their work to identify any other people involved in the incident.
Police asked anyone who saw what happened, or who had information about the incident, to get in touch.
