Regeneration plan sees new demolition application
- Published
Further demolition plans at an industrial estate have been submitted as part of a city centre regeneration scheme.
Sunderland City Council's planning department has received an application to bulldoze a single-storey garage on the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate.
A number of approvals have been issued by the authority in recent months for demolitions as part of wider plans for the area.
It has already welcomed the Sheepfolds Stables hospitality venue, and wider public realm measures are also planned along with a housing development.
The Grade II listed Sheepfolds was built in 1883 and housed working horses for the North East Railway Company.
Council chiefs hope to link the area and the Stadium of Light to the former Vaux brewery site via a new bridge over the River Wear.
Demolition plans so far have covered factory units, a former fish and chip shop, and buildings once linked to printing giant Edward Thompson.
The latest proposal, at Wilson Street North, will be decided by council planning officers in coming weeks.
Demolition is proposed to start from 1 January and would take about one month to complete, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
