Man charged with murder after stabbing

A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder following a stabbing.

John Donaldson, 34, died after being stabbed in Birchington Avenue near Lealholm Walk, Eston, Middlesbrough, at about 21:00 GMT on Thursday.

Detectives also charged the man, who is from Middlesbrough, with possession of a knife and criminal damage.

Magistrates remanded him in custody and he will appear at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday.

A 33-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released with no further action, Cleveland Police said.

In a tribute, the family of Mr Donaldson described him as "a very much loved son, brother, uncle, grandson and nephew".
