Fire crews have been thanked after attending 17 fires, seven crashes and three rescues across Leicestershire between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said one of the emergencies was when a car left a motorway, went down an embankment and crashed into trees on Christmas Day.

It happened at about 12:30 GMT on the M1 southbound between junction 23, for Shepshed and junction 22, for Coalville.

"Thankfully the driver walked away and is all OK," said the fire service.
