A 15-year-old has been arrested and dozens of dispersal orders issued in a city centre braced for trouble.

But despite a heightened police presence over fears of potential unrest, Durham Police said it had received no reports of disorder or criminal damage in the city.

The force said dispersal orders had been issued to 37 people, aged between 13 and 38, who had arrived in Durham.

A 15-year-old was also arrested for a public order offence, it added.

It follows several businesses in the city closing early due to reports of potential unrest.

The dispersal order, which had been in place since 12:00 GMT on Tuesday, has been extended and now includes areas of Bishop Auckland and Crook, as well as Durham city centre.
