Two men have been arrested after a cannabis farm was uncovered at a town centre unit.

Cumbria Police said they discovered about 1,000 plants at a commercial premises on Lowther Street in Whitehaven on Tuesday.

The men were arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis and remained in custody, a force spokesman said.

The spokesman said tell-tale signs that a cannabis farm was operating could include a strong smell, constantly covered windows or a permanent buzz of a ventilation unit.
