Planning documents said Brookside Court had become "a magnet" for trouble

Plans have been drawn up to bring a disused Leicester care home back into use.

Brookside Court has "suffered significant vandalism and break-ins" since it closed in 2016, according to a planning application to Leicester City Council.

The empty building is said to be still frequently targeted and police are "regularly" called to the Evington site.

Care provider Omnia, which took over the site in late 2022 , now wants to alter the communal layout of the building in Cademan Close and turn it into 18 single-person flats for high dependency residents.

It would provide care for residents with "high level" needs, who need self-contained accommodation because they cannot share spaces with others.

Part of the site would also be used for respite care, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Between 60 and 70 full-time staff would be employed for the site.

A decision on the application will be made by the city council at a later date.
