Two men have been charged in connection with an alleged hate crime following a protest outside accommodation for asylum seekers in Aberdeen.

A number of asylum seekers were moved from hotels into former student accommodation at Farmer's Hall, which has 150 rooms, last week.

Police Scotland said two men had been arrested and charged following a protest on Farmer's Hall Lane on Thursday.

The men, aged 26 and 40, were released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

A number of protests were held last month outside hotels housing asylum seekers in the city.

Demonstrations and counter-demonstrations have also taken place in Perth and Falkirk.

The Home Office has said it was committed to closing "all asylum hotels".
