The Dean of Blackburn has been suspended after a complaint was made against him.

In a statement from the Diocese of Blackburn, the Bishop of Blackburn, the Right Reverend Philip North, said the complaint against Peter Howell-Jones was made under the Clergy Discipline Measure, which is a procedure for investigating alleged serious misconduct.

The Bishop said the Dean's suspension was a "temporary arrangement" and that an interim dean would soon be appointed while a formal investigation took place.

The nature of the complaint has not been made public.
